چکیده

Background Despite widespread use of nutrition supplement s by CrossFit participants, existing data regarding performance and safety are minimal. Furthermore, increasing restrictions and drug testing in CrossFit, warrant the need for product specific research. The purpose of this study was to test the effects of a pre-workout supplement and post-workout protein & carbohydrate shake on CrossFit-specific performance measures and body composition.

Pre- versus post-exercise protein intake has similar effects on muscular adaptations

The purpose of this study was to test the anabolic window theory by investigating muscle strength, hypertrophy, and body composition changes in response to an equal dose of protein consumed either immediately pre- versus post-resistance training (RT) in trained men. Subjects were 21 resistance-trained men (>1 year RT experience) recruited from a university population. After baseline testing, pa...

Effects of pre- and post-exercise intake of performance supplements on body composition, circumferences, and muscle strength in trained men during 6 weeks of resistance training

Background Resistance training (RT) enhances muscle protein synthesis and increases muscle strength and hypertrophy. Protein and amino acid supplements have been shown to augment the physiological improvements associated with RT such as improved body composition, muscular strength, and hypertrophy while suppressing exerciseinduced proteolysis. Supplements that also contain creatine and caffeine...

Effects of a Pre-workout Energy Drink Supplement on Upper Body Muscular Endurance Performance

The use of pre-workout beverages is becoming an increasingly common method of improving performance during exercise in athletic and recreationally active populations. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a commercially available energy drink on exercise performance. Thirty-one healthy males (n=23) and females (n=8) participated in this study and were separated ...

Acute effects of a commercially-available pre-workout supplement on markers of training: a double-blind study

BACKGROUND Pre-workout supplements containing numerous ingredients claim to increase performance and strength. Product-specific research is important for identifying efficacy of combined ingredients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a proprietary pre-workout dietary supplement containing creatine monohydrate, beta-alanine, L-Tarurine, L-Leucine, and caffeine, on anaerobi...

The effects of pre versus post workout supplementation of creatine monohydrate on body composition and strength

BACKGROUND Chronic supplementation with creatine monohydrate has been shown to promote increases in total intramuscular creatine, phosphocreatine, skeletal muscle mass, lean body mass and muscle fiber size. Furthermore, there is robust evidence that muscular strength and power will also increase after supplementing with creatine. However, it is not known if the timing of creatine supplementatio...
